Technische Universität Berlin Logo

Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) is one of the three large public universities in Berlin, Germany. TUB is a competitive HEI interested to bring international and regional expertise to its faculties and research centres through nationally and internationally-funded projects. During the past years, this institution has been very successful in achieving this goal and aims to continue with it in the future. The Technische Universität Berlin looks back over a long and distinguished tradition of teaching and research.

TUB is devoted to creating a close connection between practical education, theory and project-oriented learning. This combination results in particularly modern vocational studies that combine teaching technical principles and the interaction between humans, technology, society and nature to make it understandable, interesting and attractive. The Institute is therefore particularly well positioned to develop practice-based curricula and to design classes for students with limited knowledge of the language used in their education, which is often the case of refugees and displaced persons.

The Center for Technology and Society (ZTG) in DE was founded in 1995 and is a central research department of TUB. Its research focus lies on interactions between societal and technical developments. From its beginning, its researchers aimed to develop theories and concepts describing and explaining the technical societal change and elaborate on new forms of cooperation management. In this regard, the ZTG follows a problem-oriented research approach. As such, the majority of research programs are not limited to descriptive-analytical approaches. Instead, they focus on the development and testing of innovative solutions and policies.

For the ZTG, it is important to secure third party funding for continuing research and development as well as academic activities. The funding coming from the EC has an important role in the annual turn-over of the institute. Similar projects like the proposed collaboration program have been helping the institute reach its goals and strategies. Moreover, this project will be very effective in involving young researchers and teachers of TUB and the ZTG to get integrated in the international activities and to gain experience.

The Faculdade de Motricidade Humana/Faculty of Human Kinetics (FMH) integrates the University of Lisbon, created in 2013 from the merging of the former Technical University of Lisbon and the University of Lisbon. Currently, it is the biggest University in Portugal, with its 18 Schools, more than 3.500 academic staff and about 48.000 undergraduate and post-graduate students, and 87 recognized research units. University of Lisbon’s main aim is the development of a research university, committed to education, innovation and technology transfer, focused on people, valuing knowledge, merit, and participation, with an European dimension open to the world, with its wide range of courses and research areas.

FMH is involved in the higher education and scientific communities, and also in various social sectors, by keeping fruitful relationships with the educational, sports, production, artistic and health systems. This is well expressed in the diversity and quality of the partnerships and relationships already established. The elementary and high schools network, within the scope of the Masters in Teaching Physical Education and School Sports’ programme is an example of how scientific and pedagogic relationships are developed with the education system, facilitating, both, the qualification of teachers training and the development of joint research projects, namely the development of pilot studies of research programs to be implemented all around the country.
